Who is the real mother? DNA to test paternity of abducted child

[iStockphoto Police want to establish the real parents of a child, who was rescued from suspected abductors in Homa Bay county. It is alleged the child was sold for Sh80,000 at Keroka town in Nyamira County before he was driven to Nyaburi village in Karachuonyo location. On Monday, the police moved to court and obtained an order to allow them to conduct DNA test on the child, the three suspects and a Nakuru woman, Matha Wambui, who is claiming to be the mother. Rachuonyo North Sub County Police Commander Lucy Parteiyie said that the DNA test was necessary to help them establish who the biological mother of the child was. "The child cannot speak or identify his mother among those he was found with. We also want to ascertain whether Wambui, is the real mother as she claims," said Parteiyie. The sub-county police boss revealed that Wambui had positively identified the minor as her missing son, who went missing on April 15. None of the three suspects had claimed to be the child's biological mother. Parteiyie said that the child has been at a children's home since Thursday. "We have to be very sure that Wambui is the biological mother but we also have to verify that it is none of the three suspects found trafficking the child," she said. The three suspects fell into a police trap acting on a tip-off on Thursday after they were flagged down at a roadblock while transporting the child to Nyaburi village. "We are yet to know who gave up the child to the three suspects in Keroka town. We, however, established that the child was to be handed over to a suspect who lives in Nairobi," she said. Parteiyie added that the fourth suspect from Komarock, Nairobi was still at large having escaped police dragnets after getting wind on the arrest of the three. If Wambui turns out to be the mother of the child, her nearly seven months search for her missing son will come to an end courtesy of a photograph circulated by the police on social media. Wambui's claimed that on the fateful day, her neighbour, Alice Nyaguthii, who owned a chemist, had volunteered to take her child to a nearby daycare since she (Wambui) was running late for work. "I had just landed a new job and needed someone to take care of the child during the day. My neighbour, who operated a chemist within the estate said she knew someone who ran a daycare and would take my baby there. I trusted her and I left. That is the last day I saw my baby, " said Wambui. In the evening, she went to pick up her child, but Nyaguthii lied that the lady who ran the daycare had travelled with her baby for a funeral in Kisii County. Angered, Wambui reported the matter at Kaptembwo Police Station in Nakuru West. Nyaguthii was arrested but was later released on bond. Confirming the incident, Nakuru West Sub County Police Commander Samson Gathuku said the suspect was released on bond and was to return to the station to give more details, but has disappeared. Gathuku said they have issued a warrant of arrest.
