Kimani Wamatangi was Thursday sworn-in as Kiambu governor at the newly constructed Kirigiti Stadium.

Wamatangi and his running mate Rosemary Kirika were received by Kiambu County Secretary Martin Njogu and other county officials.

The ceremony was conducted by Lady Justice Abigael Musila. She was assisted by Kiambu Principal Magistrate Emily Ominde.

Amid applause, outgoing governor James Nyoro, accompanied by his former deputy governor, stood up and handed Wamatangi the instruments of power and the county flag.

Wamatangi said it was time for change and common sense approach to good governance.

He said his administration would be anchored on five key pillars that would ensure that Kiambu achieves its aspirations in the next five years.

"My administration will place particular emphasis on critical areas of poverty alleviation, empowering our youth and women and supporting the elderly. This will ensure balanced and sustainable development across Kiambu County," Wamatangi said.

He told the crowd that his manifesto recognises the need to provide quality and affordable healthcare and also focuses creating an enabling business environment for small and medium enterprises.

"My first pillar will be to combat corruption that has caused Kaimbu citizens to lose trust in the county government. I intend to earn back your trust in our great county through unmatched service delivery and open democratic governance," Kimani said.

Wamatangi said the youth would benefit from his administration through support of small and medium enterprises and increased employment opportunities.

He said this would attract and retain business investments in Kiambu County.

"My fourth pillar will focus on conservation and sustainable utilisation of Kiambu County's natural resources. My Maji Nyumbai initiative is geared towards seeing that every home has clean piped water," he said.

The ceremony was attended by a number of Kiambu MPs, including John Njuguna of Kiambaa, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, and Kiambu County Speaker Stephen Ndichu.

The clergy and all Kiambu MCA-elects were also present.
