Standard Group PLC mark new EPL season in style

Pomp and colour marked the return of the English Premier League (EPL) season across the world on Saturday.

In Nairobi, the occasion was celebrated in style by passionate Kenyans who are out to support their favourite sides to clinch the elusive trophy currently held by Manchester City FC.

The K1 Klub House in Nairobi was the place to be on the night as leading national broadcaster, the Standard Group PLC launched the new season with a Community Shield match pitting the EPL champions against the FA Cup holders Liverpool FC at the 32000 seater King Power Stadium, the home of EPL side Leicester City FC.

"As EPL broadcast rights holders, we are committed to bringing the ardent football fans top-notch entertainment," Standard Group PLC Chief Officer, Operations and Strategy, Benedict Omollo, underlined.

"We hope the local EPL fanatics will enjoy the seasons with us.

"We are out to bring back the passion in the game for the next three years," Omollo stated.

The giant media outlet will relay the EPL live matches on its various radio frequencies including Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Vybez FM, Berur FM and all its digital platforms.

Gaming firm Mozzart Bet has come on board as the official sponsor of the EPL live broadcasts.

"We are also working with other partners including Multichoice, Guinness, Brookside, Prestige Motors, Better SMS, Access Mail and Spotika," Peter Njigua, Standard Group PLC General Manager, Commercial underscored.

Charles Otieno, Standard Group's Head of Weeklies, Sports and Entertainment, reiterated that the media outlet is ready to engage with the buoyant fans to make the new football season very exciting.

"Sports is one of our key pillars, we look forward to having more activations across the country to bring the followers and our clients closer," stated Otieno.

Robert Orinda, a staunch Manchester United FC is rooting for his team to clinch the trophy this season.

"From the signings, we have so far had, we only need Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Old Trafford then we will be good to go," Orinda said.

James Njagi is rooting for Arsenal to carry the day following the Gunners' record signing of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos among others.
