After two hard fought draws, Cruiser ultimately won the Marania Cup of the Northern Kenya Polo Championships at Timau Sports Club on Sunday.

Cruiser won the title after defeating Dudutec 11-10 on goals aggregate winning the final match 5-4 to romp home in style in an explosive encounter that opened doors for international championships set for Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil later this month.

Man of the match handicap -2 Ben Yanda scored four goals in the first (two), third (one) and fourth chukkas (one) with Josephine Gauld adding another in the third chukka for Cruiser cruise to victory in a hard fought epic match.

On their part Bobby Kamani scored a hatrick with a goal each in the first three chukkas with Kelvin Jumba wrapping up in the final chukka.

Gauld paid tributes to experienced duo of handicap 2.5 Tiva Gross and handicap 1 Izzy Voorspuy for their efforts to assist them (less experienced players) sharpen their skills.

”I’m afraid I missed some easy shots and so my contribution was in the defence to contain the Dudutec team but I must pay glowing tributes to Tiva(Gross) and Izzy(Voorspuy) for their positive inspiration that was very supportive to us as beginners,” Gauld told Standard Sports.

While expressing his gratitude for the great hospitality by Northern Kenya Polo Club, Kamani was happy for the two weekends of learning against experienced players.

“Whilst we may have lost by a close margin, i cannot take credit for the four goals scored in the final since it was teamwork from Kelvin (Jumba) and invaluable lessons from Jamie Murray and Izzy Voorspuy that made us achieve that. I can only hope my game gets better with all the hard lessons learnt over the last two weekends,” he said.

In the Kinsmen Cup, Syngenta team of international Casimir Gross, Archie Voorspuy, Izzy Voorspuy and Meggan Griffiths won that title.
