Wote Stadium, which is located on the outskirts of Wote town in Makueni County will be completed for use by December 2020.

According to Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Amb. Amina Mohamed, the Sh350 Million stadium had stalled due to lack of resources but since the money is available to them the contractor is on-site to ensure it's completed and put into use.

“By the end of this year, we want to have ten stadia completed so that we can be able to host international games. Sports is very important since it also brings to our country foreign exchange,” said Amina.

Amina disputed claims that stalling of various facilities was propelled by divisive politics saying the government was serving equally all regions of the country without any bias regardless of any political waves.

She said the contractor has assured them a swift construction exercise.

“The president will be here to officially open this stadium by October and any other stadium that will not be completed then we will have up to November to have the final works done so that we can have them opened to use too,” she added.

The stadium whose foundation stone was laid by Deputy President William Ruto on May 27, 2017, before stalling then once completed will have a hosting capacity of between 15,000 and 20,000 people.

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana who accompanied the CS said he will have his county engineers help where necessary to ensure the work continues undisrupted.

“These stadia will be a boost to our youths’ talents and that is what the president wants to the Kenyan youth,” Kibwana said.
