Siaya: Police embark on public sensitization

Police have embarked on a sensitisation exercise for members of the public as a way of ensuring effective enforcement of government directives on Covid-19.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli, they have resorted to educating members of the public to know and understand the importance of enforcing the measures without necessarily being forced.

The police boss who was speaking during the kick on Wednesday, stated that they will be educating the public on the need to understand the seriousness of the matter to be able to adhere to the laid down regulations.

"I have already mobilized at least 60 officers who are currently sensitizing members of the public within Siaya town and its environs on prevention measures for curbing the spread of the Covid-19," said Kooli.

He stated that they had earlier identified and mapped out some of the vulnerable areas such as the boda boda shades, bus stages and the market place among others where they are currently sensitizing people on directives such as social distancing, hand washing and personal hygiene.

He added, "This is a continuous exercise that will be cascaded into other major towns within Siaya County including Bondo and Ugunja."

He also stated that they will begin random sampling and testing of people’s temperatures as is already being done in other parts of the country.
