Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei was killed.
This is according to DCI boss George Kinoti who ruled out
suicide.
While presenting some of the CCTV footage captured at the
Deputy President’s office when former Sports CS Rashid Echesa paid a ‘courtesy
call’, Kinoti said there was no way Kenei committed suicide since even the
murder scene left so many question marks.
Through a brief demo, Kinoti showed how Kenei might have
been murdered and pointed out that had the deceased shot himself, based on the
blood spatter, he would have fallen on his bed.
Kinoti stated that when he visited Kenei’s Imara Daima home he
found the deceased dressed in pyjamas and his bed was neatly spread.
He speculated that the killers stage-managed the scene to
make it appear like suicide but the evidence collected suggested otherwise.
“The exit of the bullet made us come up with a
hypothesis. To be fair, absolutely fair, if it was suicide, we would have
wished that he rests in peace and then ask ourselves why he had killed
himself.
"So if he could have shot himself no matter how we
demonstrated that satisfy the theory and hypothesis, with him bending as you
are going to see in our report, then automatically he would have fallen on his
back.
“But what we found out was a stage-managed incident which is
the opposite,” he remarked.
Through CCTV footage shared with the press, Kenei can be seen interacting with some of the suspects in the Sh39 billion military equipment tender deal.
Sergeant Kenei was one of the Critical Infrastructure Police
Unit officers on duty when Echesa and two foreigners allegedly visited the DP’s
office to discuss details of the fake tender.
He was among the officers who were summoned to appear at the
DCI headquarters to record a statement in connection with the same but did not
report on duty on February 19, 2020.
He was later found dead inside his house.
