Four Cabinet secretaries yesterday development projects in Murang’a ahead of a visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta next month.

Fred Matiang’i (Interior), James Macharia (Transport), Joe Mucheru ( ICT) and Peter Munya of Agriculture inspected irrigation projects in Maragua constituency.

Matiang’i, who led the team, said the inspection is ahead of the planned launch of various programmes by the President.

“The President will be launching the projects next month as more funds are committed to fast-track those that will have direct impact on the public,” said Matiang’i.

Matiang’i launched the Nginda Irrigation Project being implemented by the National Irrigation Authority at a cost of Sh217 million. Munya said the government had streamlined how the cherry advance will be paid to farmers who have delivered their coffee to the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union.

“They will be the first to benefit from the coffee cherry advance payment,” said Munya adding that old coffee debts estimated at Sh50 million will be paid. Macharia said several road projects had been earmarked for improvement among them the Mau Mau road linking Kiambu, Murang’a and Nyeri counties.

The visit also coincided with prayers at the homecoming of National Cohesion and Integration Commission Commissioner Wambui Nyutu.
