Swedish woman found dead in Kitale home

Police in Trans Nzoia have launched investigations into the death of a Swedish missionary in Kitale town.

Police suspect Lillian Bourcart, 74, was strangled in her house in Milimani estate on Wednesday morning.

The foreigner was living alone in the rented storey house with her pet cats and several turkey birds.

Two workers who reported to work at 8 am found the main gate and doors open and discovered the lifeless body of Ms Bourcart lying on the floor in the storeroom.

Philomena Chepkorir said the house was ransacked and Sh300,000 meant for paying rent was missing.

Chepkorir said she left the house on Tuesday at around 6 pm and her boss had told her about the money to pay rent.

“Our employer had Sh300,000 to pay rent and some money for shopping. We expected to pay the rent today and it is sad they have killed her and stolen the cash,” said Chepkorir, who worked at the home with Rashid Wanjala.

The owner of the house, Arthur Usagi, said Bourcart had been living in his property for the past 12 years.
