Security agents in Mombasa on the hunt for notorious drug trafficker, says Elungata

Security agents in the in Mombasa are hunting down a notorious drug trafficker who operates in Likoni Sub County, Coast Regional Coordinator (RC) John Elungata has disclosed.

Elungata who toured the sub county on Saturday said the suspect is on the most wanted list of the local police.

He said police are narrowing down on the drug suspect and that it is a matter of time before he is nabbed by the security agencies.

Elungata added that three accomplices of the run-away trafficker have recently been arrested and asked the police to seek public support to fight the drug menace and crime in the region.

The regional coordinator, who was accompanied by the Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo, Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakub and other senior government officials put illicit drug dealers on notice saying police would not relent on its operations targeting traffickers and other criminals.

During the tour, Elungata held a meeting with grassroot leaders such as elders, youth leaders, chiefs and their assistants and senior police officers from Likoni sub-county.

''Incidences of crime blamed on knife wielding criminal gangs who are high on drugs have gone down and this is attributed to good relationship between the police and the public,'' Elungata said.

Elungata confirmed that several key suspects have been arrested and drugs including heroin and cocaine worth millions of shillings confiscated.

Later, Elungata visited the newly established Mishi Mboko Girls High School in Likoni Constituency where he reminded parents that education was the only gift they could give their children to secure a better future.

''I urge grassroot leaders to work closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure the area achieves 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary,'' the official said.

He heaped praises on the area MP Mishi Mboko for constructing the modern school through the Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) saying the new school is set to increase access to girls’ secondary education within the area.

On her part, Mboko said the constituency had only one secondary school for girls hence it became important to construct another one in order to increase the number of girls completing secondary education from the constituency.

''We are giving the girl child equal opportunities here. Education for girls is a sure way of securing their future and that those completing secondary education will act as role models for other girls in the coastal county to motivate them to finish secondary education.

Coast Regional Director of Education Hussein Adan said that his office would facilitate the institution and ensure that it gets all the necessary support.
