Raila announces change of venue for Mombasa BBI rally

ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Friday announced that the BBI rally in Mombasa that was set to take place at Tononoka Grounds (January 24, 2020) has been moved to Mama Ngina Waterfront Park.

This is due to security concerns that had been raised earlier.

Also, there was concern that Tononoka would not accommodate the large crowd that is expected on Saturday.

On Friday, Coast MPs allied to Tanga Tanga were given a taste of what to expect at the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally after rowdy youth stormed their press conference.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Nyali counterpart Mohammed Ali accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of using goons to intimidate them after a group of youths carrying boulders interrupted their presser.

The Malindi MP was addressing the media over their planned BBI rally attendance in Mombasa tomorrow when the youths stormed the presser chanting anti-Tanga Tanga songs.

To avoid confrontation, Jumwa was forced to cut short her presser until the rowdy youth left the premise.

She downplayed the interruption saying the youths had been sent to deliver a message which they did deliver.

"You have seen the group wielding stones, they have been sent by people we know to come and deliver the message," she said.

Elsewhere, Senate Majority Kipchumba Murkomen says he will attend the BBI meeting in Mombasa despite being threatened.

Through his social media handle, Murkomen revealed that he had received threats that will see him being denied a seat or even get heckled should he stand to talk.

Although he did not reveal the name of the person who threatened him, the legislator said that he will still attend the BBI conference for the sake of uniting the country.

“I have been threatened that if I attend the Mombasa BBI meeting, I shall be humiliated by being denied a seat, not being allowed to talk, or even if I am allowed to talk, I shall be heckled."
