Makueni man smashes two-year-old-boy to death, hangs self

A dark cloud has engulfed Kilala shopping centre in Kaiti, Makueni County after a middle-aged man killed his two-year-old son before committing suicide.

Neighbours say that the man and his wife were living a scuffled life before.

An angry David Muia, a father of one, turned to his son killing him on the spot. He then committed suicide by hanging himself shortly after.

The incident happened at their employer’s farm which is located a few kilometers on the outskirts of Kilala.

Makueni County Commander Joseph Ole Naipeiyan confirmed the incident, adding that it was under investigation. The two bodies were taken to Makueni Referral hospital mortuary.

The couple was living in Kilala market but both were casual laborers, working for the same employer.

Muia, 21, is said to have killed the boy by hitting his head on the floor severally.

Ms Elizebeth Mueni, a neighbor, said the man used to ‘attack’ his wife especially when drunk.

“The man used to batter his wife. She would often tell us that she had nowhere to run to as she was an orphan,” said Mueni.

Ukia MCA Japheth Katumo linked the killing to increased drug abuse in the region, blaming the county government for failing to implement the already passed 2019/2020 finance bill.

The finance bill had raised licensing, tax on khat and alcoholic beverages in the county.
