Police recover stolen gun in Supermarket

Police in Thika yesterday recovered a loaded gun and 40 rounds of ammunition stashed in a bag at a supermarket.

The bag also contained a laptop and other documents.

Thika Sub-county police commander Beatrice Kiraguri said the pistol was stolen from a licensed firearm holder in December last year in Murang'a.

The officers were responding to a tip-off from Naivas Supermarket management that had raised alarm over the uncollected package.

According to CCTV footage, the package had been left at the luggage bay by two women who had their faces covered.

“A staff member from the luggage section notified us that there was a bag that had overstayed at the reception. Upon checking, we discovered there was a gun inside," said Daniel Mukuha, the supermarket's branch manager.

Police have launched a search for the two women.
