One dead, five injured in Kibwezi car crash

One person has been confirmed dead, while five others sustained injuries following a self-involving accident along Kitui-Kibwezi road earlier this morning.

According to Kibwezi sub-county Police Commander Ben Chagulo, the accident occurred at around 6:20 am at Kisayani, when the driver of a Toyota Voxy vehicle from Kitui lost control of the car after it had a tyre burst.

"The vehicle that had six occupants had a tyre burst and lost control before rolling several times," Chagulo said in a police report

A female occupant died on the spot while five others sustained head injuries.

The injured are admitted at Kibwezi sub-county hospital while the body of the deceased has since been moved to Makindu sub-county hospital mortuary.

The vehicle has been towed to Kibwezi Police Station.

Elsewhere, a man and his wife sustained minor injuries after their house was set ablaze last night in a suspected arson attack.

Albert Muoki from Ngusini village, Makindu said unknown persons the cut the grill of his house, poured petrol and set the house on fire.

The fire destroyed property of unknown value.
