Carwash employee dies after stabbing

A carwash attendant was stabbed and killed by a customer last week.

Detectives in Murang’a County are investigating the murder of 26-year-old Kelvin Mbugua by a motorist who had sought his services at a garage in Mukuyu market.

According to James Mwangi, an eyewitness, the man brought his car to be cleaned before he went to a nearby liquor outlet where he ordered drinks.

After about an hour, Mbugua walked to his customer and told him that he had finished cleaning the car. The man gave him Sh300 and demanded Sh50 change.

Mr Mwangi said the assailant settled his drinks bill and then left. He later allegedly stabbed Mbugua in the chest without any provocation.

"He sped off immediately. It happened so quickly before he jumped into his vehicle, whose registration details we have given to the police," Mwangi said.

The suspect had reportedly left a woman and three children in the vehicle.

Mbugua started working at the carwash yard four months ago.

Murang'a County Criminal Investigation Officer Juliana Muthini said the victim was pronounced dead at the Murang'a District Jospital, where his colleagues and good Samaritans had rushed him for treatment.

Ms Muthini also revealed that they were tracking the suspect using his mobile phone number.

"Since he settled his beer bill through M-Pesa, we are pursuing him. The cause of dispute has not been established," she said.

The detective added that as part of investigations into the killing, the police were requesting members of the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the culprit.

Mbugua said they were living in fear following the incident.

"For justice to be done, the suspect should be arrested and prosecuted," he said.
