Woman killed in a domestic brawl in Kibera, Nairobi

Police are holding a 25-year-old man following the murder of a 33-year-old woman in Kibera, Nairobi.

Police say they recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife from the suspect following the death of Mwandikwa Kimwele in Silanga area. The two lived together.

Detectives say they suspect that the two had a domestic quarrel leading to the murder.

Cases of domestic violence are on the rise in most informal settlement places. Most victims are women, police said and added those behind the incidents had been arrested and arraigned.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo said they are yet to know the motive behind the Kibera slums weekend incident but his team was interrogating the suspect.

“We assure women and all concerned we will protect them and ensure justice when needed,” he said.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident in which a gang raided a Chinese company along Mombasa Road, Nairobi and robbed the managers of Sh650,000.

The gang of five was armed with pistols when it stormed the firm Sunday evening at about 5 pm and ordered those present to lie down before they started to rob them.

One foreigner who tried to resist was injured in the head after being hit by a gun butt. No arrest has been made so far.

Police warn of a spike of such incidents ahead of the festive season and want victims to always cooperate with the attackers.

“Don’t resist to someone holding a gun on you demanding cash or valuables. Your life is more important,” warned a senior officer.
