Governor Granton Samboja nominees vetted

Taita-Taveta Governor Granton Samboja(pictured)'s nominees for county executive were today taken to task over their suitability to hold public office and plans to transform lives of locals.

The six nominees including a woman were hard pressed to explain their mandate and contribution to the community.

Among those vetted by the assembly’s appointment committee are Director of Administration, Office of the Chief of Staff, State House, Munyembo Mwachala, Dr Cromel Mwakirungu (nominee for Health Services), Andrew Mlawasi (Finance and Economic Planning) and Mr Julius Mwandawiro Mghanga (Lands, Mining and Housing).

Others who appeared for approval hearings at the assembly chambers chaired by Speaker Meshack Maganga were Ms Milka Nyambura Righa (Trade, Tourism, Gender, Culture and Cooperatives and Mr Laban Mwashighadi for Youth, Sports, Vocational Training and Social Services respectively.

Dr Mwakirunge who was not conversant with the national and county laws and policies assured the committee that he would address health workers’ grievances to avert industrial action, corruption and theft of drugs in county hospitals.

The former KDF officer noted strikes compromised provision of quality health care services.
