Amani National Congress (ANC) has told Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to end empty threats on the status of the National Super Alliance (NASA) and declare it dead.
Speaking yesterday in a phone interview, ANC Secretary-General Barrack Muluka said the Wednesday threats by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna that the Orange party would exit NASA were superfluous.
NASA is a coalition built by ODM, ANC and Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party during the 2017 elections.
“They are free to leave NASA because it only exists on paper and it’s them, ODM, who keep invoking NASA when they think it favours their cause,” Mr Muluka said, adding: “They have never honored any NASA agreement, and there is no ceremony required for them to leave.”
Muluka said ODM leader Raila Odinga wanted people to come together because he was used to riding on others’ backs, like people ride horses, to reach his destination.
“Once it became clear that he was not going to be President, after his withdrawal from the repeat presidential race without adequate consultations, he started to scheme how to run away from a binding agreement he had signed with other coalition partners. Now he has been exposed,” Muluka said.
On Wednesday, Mr Sifuna said ODM would exit the coalition after the Kibra mini polls because its affiliates had betrayed the coalition agreement by fielding candidates in Kibra.
Yesterday, Muluka said Raila and ODM were allowing children to be his spokesmen. “When you listen to Sifuna talking, you hear a child talking. I will never again engage him in public discourse unless it’s expressly stated that we’re engaged in child’s play,” he said.
Muluka noted that Raila once used Deputy President William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Tourism CS Najib Balala and other politicians to become Prime Minister.
“Immediately after he became premier, he started demonising Ruto. Now he is offering something we have not seen in the name of BBI. From the way Raila and his ODM are talking, there appear to be something unacceptable in the BBI. He wants to begin blackmailing others in advance,” Muluka said.
“When that report comes out and we don’t like it, we shall oppose it, even if the devil also opposes it.”
