Police have recovered two cargo containers stolen from the Homa Bay county government.

The containers which are worth Sh700,000 each got lost under unclear circumstances between May 5, 2017 and April 3, 2018.

They had been used by the county to transport road maintenance equipment from Mombasa to Homa Bay.

They disappeared while being returned to the port.

Yesterday, officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said they recovered one of the containers in the neighbouring Kisumu County on Monday evening.

It was found in the compound of a man who was known to the county leadership in Kochola East A village.

Homa Bay County DCI Commander Daniel Wachira said police were looking for the suspect.

The second container was recovered in Muhoroni. A woman who was found with it was arrested.
