By the time Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen hit the grassless ground during a football match in Kitui, his face had told the story. He was hurt.

The injury was aggravated by how he landed.

However, Murkomen tweeted late in the evening, indicating that the injury was not as serious as was earlier thought.

The Elgeyo Marakwet senator injured himself during a match between the Senate team and Kitui County Assembly.

He fell and landed on his shoulder, tearing his tendons.

“Today during a football match between Senate and Kitui County Assembly I fell down and landed on my right shoulder tearing my tendons,” the senator later tweeted.

Murkomen was treated by doctors from Jordan Hospital before being referred to Nairobi for further treatment.

“I thank Dr Matu of Jordan Hospital, paramedics and the Senate First Aid team for attending to me. I have been referred to Nairobi for a small procedure,” he said before vowing to return to the pitch soon.

A section of the senator’s followers took to his Twitter account to wish him quick recovery, while others blamed the fall on the status of football pitches in the country.

The senator was seen leaving the pitch accompanied by medics, his shoulder in an arm sling.
