Polo: Bwana Begg showpiece kicks off in Timau today

Great action is expected when Bwana Begg Murray and Connaught Cup Polo Championships gets underway at Northern Polo Club in Timau today.

But miles away in Lusaka, the national junior team are testing Zambian horses ahead of Lusaka International Championships tomorrow.

The Bwana Begg Murray and Connaught Cup Polo Championships is a dress rehearsal for two international championships set for Nairobi Polo Club next month.

Kenya Polo Association has lined up seven top players alongside budding ones for the three-day event.

They include handicap 5 Jammie Murray, Casmir Gross (4.5), George Mc Kork (3.5), Craig Millar (3.5), Richard Stonewigg (3), Tarquin Gross (3) and Archie Voorspuy (2.5).

Murray, Voorspuy and Millar alongside Phillip Arunga plays for handicap 14 Prosaro team who will be up against CBA team in the round robin Timau Stores Cup.

The handicap 14.5 CBA team comprises Casmir Gross, George Mc Corkell, Tarquin Gross and Richard Stonewigg.

The Connaught Cup is scheduled for Sunday and two teams in Prosaro and Redigo Deter are lined up.

Jammie Murray leads the handicap 14.5 Prosaro team of Craig Millar, Richard Stonewigg and Tarquin Gross while Redigo team comprises Casimir Gross, Archie Voorspuy, George Mc Corkell and Arunga.

The three-day Bwana Begg Championships has attracted three teams in Tiara, Redigo Deter and Skyway Xpro, which boast an average handicap of 0.5.

Gideon Moi leads the Skyway Xpro team that features Miranda Simpson, Natasha Tisminieskzky and Mina Stiernblad.
