Governor Waititu skips key leaders’ meeting

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu (pictured) on Monday night skipped a key meeting off political and religious to discuss development in the county.

The meeting, which lasted more than four hours, was attended by majority of area MPs, church leaders and several parastatal heads. 

It was convened by Energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Njoroge said the meeting focused on the status of Government-funded projects in the county.

“We met will all county leaders together with technical officers from ministries implementing various projects to engage on progress, challenges and status of various project in the county,” he said.

The technical officers who attended the meeting were drawn from Roads, Water and Irrigation, Energy and Metropolitan Development departments.

Njoroge said the meeting was necessary to enable leaders share challenges and concerns hampering the implementation of various State-funded projects in the county so that they can be handled.

Real concerns

“It was a meeting like no other where we had politicians, but there was no politics. It was a meeting that purely focused on service delivery to the people of Kiambu,” he said.

The PS acknowledged there have been concerns on development in Central Kenya, adding such meetings were necessary to see whether the concerns were real or perceived.

He said the meetings would continue on a regular basis, adding they were not unique to Kiambu. He said Nyeri and Meru counties have held similar meetings.

Kiambu deputy governor Dr James Nyoro was present.

Thika MP Patrick Wainaina, Wanjiku Kibe (Gatundu North) Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) Gabriel Kago (Githunguri) Jonah Mburu(Lari), Peter Mwathi (Limuru)and Ruiru’s Simon Kinga’ara attended the meeting.

Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba and County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga were in attendance.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw’a, Francis Munyua (Juja) Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town), Paul Koinange (Kiambaa) and Kabete’s Githua Wamachukuru did not attend.

Political leaders who attended the meeting declined to speak to the media, saying the brief given by the PS was enough.
