Kiambu Members of County Assembly are plotting to remove Speaker Stephen Ndicho.

By yesterday, about 65 out of the Assembly’s 92 MCAs had signed his impeachment motion, which has already been received by the assembly clerk.

The motion is being pushed by Ruiru Baishara Ward MCA Elijah Njoroge.

County Assembly Majority Leader Gideon Gachara supported the motion terming it as long overdue.

He said the move to oust the Speaker was unstoppable despite some MCAs who met governor Ferdinand Waititu on Tuesday pledging to support Mr Ndicho.

On Tuesday, a group of MCAs supporting Ndicho’s ouster blocked the way leading from his office saying they would not let him access the chamber to conduct any business.

“We want a neutral person to conduct the House business since as of now we do not have confidence in the Speaker. There is already an ouster motion being prepared and we feel there is a need for an impartial person to take charge,” said Kinoo MCA Kimani Wanjiku.

Mr Njoroge said there was no turning back in their bid to oust the Speaker, adding that there was overwhelming evidence to warrant his removal.

“The motion as it is has overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing by the Speaker and there is no doubt he will have to go home. We have unanimously agreed that Ndicho (pictured) must go,” he said.

Assembly Majority Whip Simon Karema said the Assembly would not succumb to intimidation from the county executive which he said was trying to protect Ndicho.

“We know the governor met some of the MCAs and told them not to support the speaker’s ouster’s motion. The ward reps should be left to make their own independent decisions without being intimidated or coerced,” said Mr Karema.

Former Majority Leader Antony Ikonya who led the group of MCAs to meet with the governor said they have confidence in the Speaker. On his part, Waititu said it was clear a majority of MCAs were supporting Ndicho.
