Munya orders probe over petrol station constructed on EPZ land

The Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) management is in a spot over a private petrol station allegedly constructed on land within the zone.

Industry, Trade and Cooperative Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has ordered investigation to establish how a private developer was allocated the land to construct the petrol station.

"I'm shocked to learn that this petrol station is in operation even after major concerns were raised," said Mr Munya.

Speaking during a tour of the Athi River-based EPZ on Tuesday, the CS said the Government land should be protected from grabbers at all cost.

"We need to be told how this Government land was allocated and to who, and whether due process was followed," he said.

Paul Gicheru, the EPZA chairman, distanced himself from the allocation and pointed an accusing finger at the previous regime.
