Grief as a business woman murdered in her shop, her throat slit

A businesswoman in Murang’a town was killed under unclear circumstances.

Margaret Waithera Kamau body was found in her bed, with her throat slit.

A man believed to be her boyfriend was arrested to assist in the investigation, to establish the motive.

The 47-year-old woman slept behind her retail shop in Kandundu village, where she settled after separating with her husband.

The neighbours hinted there was a commotion near her premise shortly after 4 am before the door to her room was found open.

The police in their initial investigation tried to establish if anything was carried from her shop.

Peter Karobia said the mother of four was staying alone behind her shop after she walked away from her matrimonial home barely a kilometre away.

“We need police to conduct investigations to expose individuals behind her death,” said Karobia.

Murang’a East Deputy Police Commander Alexander Muasya said the matter was being investigated by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to help track her last moments.

He said her mobile phone will help guide the investigators, as the detectives will be pursuing various leads, to establish the motive.

“The police will record statements from neighbours and her family as part of investigations to unravel those behind the incident,” said Mr Muasya.
