A family of a 33-year-old woman from Kapsabet has faulted Lugulu Mission Hospital for the death of their kin.

Esther Chepkemoi, a police officer attached to Kapsokwony Police Station, checked into the health facility on June 27 month when in labour.

In an interview with The Standard yesterday, Godwin Kiplimo, Chepkemoi's husband, said medics told her that she was supposed to undergo a caesarean section, but the gynecologist had not reported on duty on the fateful day.

Mr Kiplimo said they had to wait until the following day when Chepkemoi was taken to the theatre but he became suspicious after waiting for for six hours without his wife coming out.

“I decided to ask one of the nurses and I was informed that my wife had overbled and needed blood which they didn’t have. I asked her why they carried out the operation knowing they had no blood in the blood bank,” said Kiplimo.

He said blood was requested from the Webuye County hospital and they only got one pint which was not enough.

He claims at this point the medics decided to refer Chepkemoi to another hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Hospital administrator Jackson Fuko said they tried all they could to save Chepkemoi's life in vain. Kiplimo is planning to seek legal redress.
