Girl, 19 held 'for killing' 14-year-old candidate

Police in Kakamega East are holding a 19-year-old girl in connection with the killing of a Standard Eight.

Shinyalu police boss Robert Makau said the victim, aged 14, was on Saturday evening stabbed several times while on her way to Khayega shopping centre.

“According to the information we have, the victim had come to do some shopping at Khayega, which is a short distance from her home. She met the suspect who... who stabbed her on the chest,” said Mr Makau.

“Efforts to save her were futile, as she had lost a lot of blood,” the OCPD added. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Kakamega General Hospital.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested the suspect on Saturday night. She is being held at Shinyalu Police Station.

“We are investigating the motive of the gruesome murder. There are reports that the two were involved in a love triangle but it is something that is under investigation. We shall arraign her to answer to murder charges,” said Makau.
