Sugarcane driver arrested after running over his turn-boy

Police at Awendo sub-county are holding tractor driver after he is alleged to have kill his turnboy accidentally.

The driver who was identified as Ouma Jawuoche was arrested by the police following the death of his turn boy who has not been identified.

While speaking to The Standard over the phone on Wednesday evening, David Ochieng Kanyimach village area chief in Awendo sub-County said the turn boy was riding along with the driver sitting on the rear wheel mudguard when the tractor hit a pot.

“The two were riding together on the tractor after immediately coming from a weighbridge in Ranen area, the deceased fell down and was crushed to death with the tractor,  and died instantly,” said Onyango.

Onyango said that the driver panicked and tried to escape after the accident before he was trailed by member public and police along sugarcane plantations.

“We found him close to midnight yesterday when the tractor was packed in the middle of sugarcane plantation, his friends identified him from the tractor left behind,” said Onyango.

According to Awendo OCPD Mrs Mary Musyoka the driver was arrested after long search after he appeared by himself to check the tractor from where he left it .

“Police said that the two the river and his turnboy were at Ranen weighbridge and left together before the accident,” said Musioka

The driver is at Awendo police station and the body of the deceased was transferred to Rosewood Mortuary in Awendo town where an autopsy will be done.
