An assistant chief from Ikolomani sub-county will stand trial for the murder of a man assaulted on his way home from a funeral vigil.

Benedict Shakuluka will be charged alongside Peter Kiteyi and Wycliffe Misigo, with the murder of Godfrey Khimiri on March 23, last year at Madarini village.

He is suspected to have accosted Khimiri, accusing him of engaging in crime. Khimiri is said to have gone missing until three days later when his father found his body in his room.

The three suspects were arrested after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concluded that there was overwhelming evidence against them.

Kakamega Resident Magistrate Noelyne Akee ordered them detained at Kakamega Main Prison, awaiting to be charged at the High Court on June 6.
