Ex-boyfriend detained over murder of police officer

A man who claims to be a former boyfriend of a slain police officer attached to Parliament has been arrested.

The man who surrendered to police on Saturday is being held at Buru Buru Police Station. He explained that he had parted ways with Hellen Kwamboka, the murdered officer, months ago.

Police said yesterday they are hunting for another man who is said to have been her boyfriend when she died, and who was seen in her Umoja house last Thursday.

Ms Kwamboka’s body was found lying on her bed with deep cuts on the forehead. She also seemed to have been strangled.

The boyfriend who is at large is said to have called Kwamboka’s parents in Kisii to inform them that he had parted ways with her.

“The parents say the man called them to say he had parted with their daughter and that he had picked his belongings from her house. We are looking for him,” said Buru Buru head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations Adan Guyo.

Guyo said they are yet to establish the motive behind the murder. Kwamboka is said to have last reported to work on May 23, and left for home at around 7pm. Police say that it was the last time she was seen in public.

Police suspect that Kwamboka was first strangled before she was stabbed. No murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
