IEBC punishes four officials for leaking key documents

Three electoral officials have been interdicted and another one demoted on claims of leaking confidential documents.

Caroline Manyange, the manager in charge of boundaries at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and her two subordinates were interdicted last week over claims they leaked, to the media, a schedule showing the agency will spend over Sh30 million on bench-marking trips to several countries.

A report published by a section of the media last month indicated the three commissioners and four senior staff were scheduled to visit US, Australia, Canada, India, South Africa and Nigeria for bench-marking of boundaries delimitation.

The commission did not deny the planned trips then, but claimed the reporting was malicious.

Finance manager Agatha Wahome, suspended late last year over accusations of leaking documents to former CEO Ezra Chiloba while on compulsory leave, was demoted to an assistant manager.  

The personal secretary to chairman Wafula Chebukati, only identified as Susan, has been told to leave the commission immediately.

Over 50 other officers have been given caution letters for bungling tender award for supply of ballot papers and technology.
