Boxing: Why Jarrell Miller will avoid ban for his failed drugs tests

Jarrell Miller is set to sensationally avoid an official ban for his three failed drugs tests in the run-up to fighting Anthony Joshua.

The Brooklyn brawler was due to take on Joshua at Madison Square Garden on June 1 before VADA found adverse findings.

The tests showed up a metabolic modulator as well as EPO and Endurobol leading to him being refused a licence by the New York State Athletic Commission.

Yet Eddie Hearn has revealed how a loophole means he is not able to be handed an official ban as he was not licensed at the time of his offence.

As a result, it will be done to individual boxing commissions to decide whether or not to grant him a licence for any future fights.

"He doesn’t have a license with the New York State Athletic Commission because it has expired,” Hearn told FightHub TV.

“They can’t punish him. They can only refuse his [new] license.

“He could go to any other commission and apply for a licence - but I don’t think he will get one.”

It still looks like Miller is set to face a lengthy spell out of the ring even if he doesn't officially receive a ban.

Hearn has branded Miller as a "coward" and called for him to be forced out of the sport for more than a year as punishment.

“A year is very, very, very kind to Jarrell Miller,” Hearn stated.

“I’m all for forgiving. People make mistakes but this is not a mistake.

“You have to look at the extent of what he has done.

“I like Jarrell Miller. I like his company. For a couple of years now I have done everything I can to give him the best opportunities of his career.

“I gave chances on HBO, signed him to DAZN and gave him the Anthony Joshua fight.

“He f****d it up and took it as a liberty. What he has done is downright cold-blooded cheating.

“I’m presuming you inject that s**t so why have you done that?

“To do what he has done is cowardly.”
