Suspected jilted lover kills five-year-old boy in Murang'a

A man walked into a home in Murang’a and killed a nursery school pupil.

The man forced his way into the children's bedroom and slashed five-year-old Collins Waweru to death.

He left his cousin aged two unscathed.

The suspect allegedly stormed into the family home in Ndutumi village in Kahuro Subcounty armed with a machete after 10pm.

In the scuffle that ensued, the deceased's aunt managed to grab the machete from the assailant, but was slashed in the process.

She  managed to escape and raise alarm, leaving behind the deceased at the mercy of the assailant.

Accompanied by residents, she returned home only to find the boy in bed with deep cuts on the head and neck.

“My son was not injured during the traumatising incident,” she explained.

At the scene of the murder, police officers recovered a cap, an ID card and a blood stained machete believed to have been left behind by the suspect as he escaped.

The boy's mother was not at home at the time of the incident.

“I am at peace with everybody and I wonder why someone would kill my innocent son. The manner in which he was executed shows it was a calculated move,” she said.

Murang’a Police Commander Josphat Kinyua said the suspect is still at large.

He said in the investigations police want to establish whether the suspect was at the scene and whether he committed the act as a jilted lover.

The suspect, he said, lives in Thika town and has been running away from the police for three days.

“ We urge the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect,” said Kinyua.
