Hotel Sapphire located in Mombasa's Central Business District (CBD) is banking on domestic tourists to occupy it this April holiday.

In an interview with The Standard, Hotel's General Manager, Mr Eustace Mutua said that they have prepared well to host Easter holidaymakers and are optimistic of a full house occupancy during the first holiday season of the year.

''We have lined up a series of events particularly during the Easter weekend where patrons can indulge in a choice of their favourite meals and drinks while the little ones accompanying parents can enjoy a host of Easter games including Easter egg designing, Easter themed jewellery designing, bunny hunts, face painting among other fun activities,'' he said.

Mutua said that the 112 roomed hotel which re-opened in September of 2018 after a massive refurbishment has been receiving both local, regional and international guests who enjoy the newly renovated property and exemplary service.

''The hotel owners continue to have confidence in destination Mombasa hence the massive financial injection into the hotel upgrade works that will also see the introduction of five meeting halls, one of which can be converted in to a huge ball room to attract over 200 delegates, a full gymnasium and steam bath and sauna plus a massage parlour,'' he said.

Mutua added that they are optimistic of tremendous growth in arrivals and business in 2019 and are already eyeing full bookings for the Easter holidays.

“We welcome all who wish to join us in celebrating the Easter festivities with both friends, families. We have set the standards with our tasty cuisine that will be served at the restaurant,'' Mutua said.

He said that owing to their proximity to the old Mombasa Railway station that serves as pick and drop off point for passengers using the Madaraka Express passenger train, they have been recording an increase in number of guests travelling via the SGR train service.

''We have been experiencing steady flow of SGR passengers choosing to book and stay with us because of the convenience of our location,'' the GM noted.

At the same time, Mutua said that they are planning on making a stab at the annual Karibu Annual tourism trade fair set for June in the Tanzanian city of Arusha.

''Hotel Saphire is a firm believer in cross -border trade. Hence our exploits at the Arusha fair, which is by far the largest tourism trade fair in the East African region will help position our market place throughout East Africa,'' Mutua added.
