What would you do with Sh1 million?

Vincent Munga from Bungoma is among 16 millionaires announced in the ongoing Shukrani Kocho Kocho Kenya Nzima consumer campaign by Safaricom. The 10-week promotion seeks to reward more than five million Safaricom customers across the country with more than Sh250 million in prizes.

Munga, a shopkeeper, says he never thought he would win in the promotion and it came as a pleasant surprise. The orphan, with a younger brother and sister, says the money will go a long way in advancing his siblings’ education.

“The Sh1 million will be of great help to me. I struggle so much to keep my siblings in school while depending on the income from my small shop.  It is a great cushion. I thank Safaricom for celebrating me as a customer,” said Munga.

Other week one winners of Sh1 million include: Makori Mogoa Ayienda- North Eastern, Daniel Makali Kilobi – Central and Mary Nyambura Mbugua – Rift Valley. Week two millionaires include Sofia Mohamed Ali- North Eastern, Japheth Okari Mokua- Nyanza, Somo Halake Hapicha – Central, and Julius Dzuwa Kalume - Coast.

“The money will change the fortunes of my family. I will put up an electronic shop in Mombasa town because that is what I am experienced in. I have been an employee in an electronic shop for over ten years and for once I will be my own boss,” said Julius Kalume, a week two winner from the Coast.

More than 1.5 million other customers from across the country have already been awarded with weekly cash and daily airtime prizes worth over Sh78 million.

Winners from every region are randomly selected through weekly draws with more than 500,000 customers expected to win cash prizes of Sh1,000 and above while more than 5 million other customers stand to win daily airtime prizes.

“Over 100 more Kenyans are still expected to be millionaires in the nine remaining weeks. The aim of this promotion is to celebrate and reward our more than 29 million customers for their continued loyalty over the years. We believe this will transform lives,” said Safaricom’s Chief Customer Officer, Sylvia Mulinge.

To participate in the promotion, customers will earn ten entries for every Sh20 top-up, and one entry for every Sh20 transacted on M-Pesa. Qualifying M-Pesa transactions include sending money, receiving money from a business, transfers from a financial institution to M-Pesa, and all Lipa Na m-pesa transactions.
