Kakamega: Man found murdered, body dumped on river bank

The deceased’s motorcycle was found a few meters from where his body was dumped

A body of 47-year-old man was on Monday morning found dumped on the banks of River Firasti in Butere in a suspected murder incident.

Benjamin Kilo, a bodaboda rider, had gone missing the previous night.

It is believed that he was attacked by his assailants as he headed home from work.

"We were notified of our kin's death by fellow bodaboda riders who were passing by the river early this morning (Monday). His body had limb and head injuries," said his mother, Anyango Musa.

The deceased’s motorcycle was found a few meters from where his body was dumped.

The body was moved to St Mary's Hospital Mortuary in Mumias.

According to the residents, the killing brings to three the number of murder cases to happen this year at the same spot.

Early this year, two bodies were also found at the river banks with injuries and residents are now calling for quick action to resolve the cases.

Residents now fear this could be the beginning of killings witnessed in the same sub-county last year.

Last year, there were reports of a gang known as the '42 Brothers' terrorising residents, blamed for several murders.

Residents are blaming the community policing committee 'Nyumba Kumi' for being reluctant to apprehend those suspected to be criminals.

“We cannot keep losing people and we have chiefs and nyumba kumi who sleep on their jobs, this should stop,” said Stephen Mireka a local.

Area chief Caleb Alwang’a said the reports were with the police and security of the area was paramount but admitted that no arrests had been made.
