Homa Bay County is set to receive a donation of two fire engines and an ambulance from a rotary club in the United Kingdom.

The two trucks were donated by Workington Rotary through Kootab Myoot Community, a Kenyan NGO in the UK and received by county officials led by deputy governor Hamilton Orata.

The group also donated 40 pairs of boots, helmets, suits and gloves.

Workington Rotary fire officer Nick Okey said the fire appliances were fully kitted and up to date.

"We are very happy to see them leave the depot to Kenya where I am sure they will do a good job," he said.

Ken Kirkwood, chair of Workington Rotary International committee said, “I am very pleased to see the vehicles leave. It has a great time making sure all the kits were right ones and we look forward to going to Kenya. It is important that training is offered to the Homa Bay fire officers and I am pleased some fire officers will be in the trip.”

The trucks were donated to Homa Bay county through Dr. Kipnyango Seroney, the chairman of Kootab Myoot Community, a Kenyan NGO in the UK.

They were received by Homa Bay county officials led by Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata.

Workington Rotary manager fire officer Okey said the fire appliances were up to date and were fully loaded with fire kits.

The engines were presented to Homa Bay county government following a request made by Salome Abela, a member of the county assembly, during her visit to London.

Abela raised concern regarding fire disasters in Homa Bay and the entire region.

The Cumbria County council senior fire managers offered to train the fire engine officers in Cumbria and Homa Bay for free.

The officials will be in Homa Bay on March 28 to witness the arrival of the engines and ambulance.

Richard Bonyo in the Governor's office has confirmed that Governor Cyprian Awiti is looking forward to the day.

He said, “The governor and the county are not only excited about the donations. The governor says it will be a big day in Homa Bay.”
