Senior police officer’s son kills bodaboda rider in road accident

A boda boda rider in Nanyuki died after he was run over by a speeding vehicle.

Anthony Muthui, 31, from Likii, was hit near Sportsman Arms Hotel on Saturday at around 6.30am.

The driver who hit him is said to be an employee of the county government, and the son of a police officer from the area.

Witnesses said the vehicle hit the motorcyclist from behind and dragged him about 100 metres away.

Area police boss Kizito Mutoro confirmed the accident, saying the suspect had recorded a statement at Nanyuki Police Station and would be arraigned today.

“No one is above the law regardless of who they are,” said Mr Kizito, noting that the position of his father would not compromise investigations.

Muthui’s body was taken to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary while the vehicle and the damaged motorcycle were towed to Nanyuki Police Station.

Incidentally, Muthui lost his only brother the same month last year in Grogan in Nanyuki town after he was attacked by thugs.

The case is still pending at a Nanyuki law court.
