A fourth year student of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Mmust) was On Sunday found dead under unclear circumstances.

Clement Omolo Ogendo, was an Information Technology (IT) student.

According to Evans Ondiki Oyatoh, one of the student leaders, the student might have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped by the roadside at Lurambi along the Kakamega-Webuye highway.

Mr Oyatoh said they don't know the motive of his murder but investigations had been launched into the matter.

"As MMUSO leaders we are condemning this uncouth and barbaric act in the strongest terms possible.  A comrade is not killed irrespective of the prevailing circumstances. That's an act of cowardice and we will ensure justice is served," said Oyatoh.

He added: " We are following up  the matter with all seriousness and our commitment is that  justice must prevail. We therefore urge comrades to keep calm and we will communicate  the way forward soon, "

Fellow students led by Moses Wanjala, described the deceased as a humble and social student.

Wanjala said he used to sell them bhajia at the university premises to earn a living, saying police should ensure those involved are brought to book.

"Why kill such an innocent soul that is blameless. Lurambi is now insecure since unknown gang is terrorising students and looting their valuables," said Wanjala.

Masinde Muliro University’s director of public communications Dennis Ochieno and the Dean of Students Bernadette Mukabi declined to comment on the matter on grounds that the security department had not completed investigations into the matter.

Kakamega Central OCPD Joseph Chebii said two students had been arrested in connection to the death of their colleague.

"We suspect the killing to be an inside job (university) since the victim had a debt of one of the arrested students. The two are in custody and are helping police with investigations," said Mr Chebii.

The officer called on the student leaders to ensure the university premises is peaceful, saying police are still investing the matter.
