Controversy rocks multimillion water project in Ndaragwa

Attention has been drawn to a Sh80 million water project set to be launched by Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday.

Leaders in the county are wrangling over the funding of the project, with some saying Governor Francis Kimemia is trying to lay claim on it yet it was a national Government's initiative.

Saturday launch

Already Mr Kimemia has said he will be launching the Leshau Karagoini water project on Saturday during the World Wetlands Day, ahead of Dr Ruto.

Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni has protested Kimemia's plan, saying the project was a brainchild of the Jubilee Government.

He has urged Kimemia to let Ruto launch the project.

“It is well known that the national Government funded the project. Let the Governor come out clean and tell us know how much the county government has pumped into it," Mr Kioni said.

Kimeimia downplayed Nyandarua County's involvement in the project, saying the idea to launch it on Saturday was simply an event to mark the World Wetlands Day.

When completed, the project is expected to benefit more than 5,000 households.
