DCI recruits 600 police officers to boost its operations

Up to 600 police officers have been selected to join the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

This followed interviews conducted at various levels in the Kenya Police and Administration Police Service.

The new team reports at the DCI Academy in South C, Nairobi today to start a six-month conversion training on various issues.

DCI had sought to recruit the personnel internally in July. Those taken include potential crime investigators, potential forensic science experts, potential crime intelligence collectors and analysts, medical practitioners, artisans and drivers.

They include two officers of the rank of commissioner of police, senior superintendent of police (four), chief inspector (eight), inspector of police (12), sergeant (18), corporal (50) and 500 police constables.

In 2017, the DCI said it planned to spend Sh38.5 billion in revamping its operations in the next three years.

A 2015-2020 Strategic plan indicated the focus would be on four main areas, including building institutional capacity, strengthening crime management, cooperating locally and internationally and establishing robust processes and systems.

The inspectorate plans to spend Sh14.2 million on training and developing specialised investigative capacity, Sh1.6 billion for completion of the construction of a forensic laboratory, Sh4 billion in equipping it and Sh2 billion on devolving forensic services to counties and sub-counties.
