The Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) has issued a warning against illegal filming in public places, saying it was a threat to national security.

The board say police will now arrest anyone found engaging in film-making in national parks, games reserves and beaches among others without KFCB licence to deter criminal activities such as terrorism.

The warning comes days after suspected terrorists attacked DusitD2 hotel in Nairobi’s Westlands area on Tuesday, killing 21 people and injuring many others.

Yesterday, board CEO Ezekiel Mutua said increased cases of unlicensed filming sponsored by unscrupulous persons masquerading as KFCB officials was a threat to security.

He added: “Considering possible misuse of films and content creation by criminal elements, and in order to support security agencies with data and information about authorised filmmakers in Kenya, the board urges all film makers to ensure they have film license before embarking on any shoot,” said Mutua.
