Two suspected robbers were yesterday lynched when they invaded a home at Karura village in Mathira constituency.

The two were part of a gang that had attacked the home. They were armed with an AK-47 rifle and other weapons.

The owner of the home, only identified as Wachira, raised the alarm, attracting the attention of villagers, who beat the two to death.

The police arrived in time to save one suspect as the villagers bayed for his blood.

They took him to hospital.

Two other suspects escaped but police caught up with one of them and shot him dead.

The officers recovered a rifle from him. Police said they were looking for the fifth gangster.

Karatina OCPD James Baraza commended the residents for responding quickly when the alarm was raised.

“We are working with residents to apprehend all criminals who are disturbing people in this area,” he said.

The incident comes a week after County Police Commander Ali Nuno told criminals in the region to reform or leave the county before they were caught.

"We shall not tolerate crime in this county. Those with firearms and are terrorising Kenyans should know we are coming for them,” Mr Nuno said.
