Kin cry foul after man killed at lover’s home

The parents of a 24-year-old student allegedly killed by his girlfriend’s father a fortnight ago are demanding justice.

Ezra Aringa Nalundo, a student at Cheptarit Technical Training Institute, was reportedly hacked to death while at his girlfriend’s home. The incident took place at Kaisagat village in Kwanza sub-county, Trans Nzoia County.

Aringa, a mechanical engineering student, wrote his last paper on November 24 and was to graduate in February.

The deceased’s father Charles Nyainda Atima said his son had gone to visit the girlfriend at her parent’s home 7km away when he met his death.

The girlfriend’s father allegedly hit the student on the head with a metal bar, killing him on the spot.

“I’m told my son was taking tea with his girlfriend at her parents’ house when her father hit him on the head and killed him,” Atima told The Standard.

After the man realised that he had killed the student, he allegedly dragged the body out of the house and raised the alarm that he had killed a thief.

“He then alerted the area chief who informed the police to remove the body,” said Atima.

Atima discovered his son had died when he went to Endebess Police Station to report that he was missing.

An officer at the station told him that an unidentified body had been collected from a nearby home.

Cover-up

“I realised they were playing games with me because the administrator did not inform me about the death until I reported the matter to the police,” he added.

Atima said there was an attempt to cover up the incident since the suspect involved in the killing had not been arrested.

The body is preserved at Kitale District Hospital mortuary.

The family said they would not bury their son until they got justice since a post-mortem report showed that the student was hit on the skull.

“We will not bury him until we get justice and want Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to intervene in the matter,” said Joshua Migiro, an uncle of the student.

Aringa’s mother Joyce Nelima said her son had never been involved in crime and asked the Government to ensure his killer was brought to book.

Endebess OCPD Shadrack Rutto said 11 people, including a chief, had recorded statements in connection with the killing.
