Christmas party turns tragic as police officer is attacked, killed

A Christmas night party celebrated with feasting and drinking turned tragic to a police officer in Embakasi, Nairobi after he succumbed to injuries from an attack.

Nairobi Police boss Joseph Ole Tito who confirmed the incident said Charles Oigoro had been partying with friends including his colleague Ancent Kasyoka in a restaurant on the fateful Tuesday night, before meeting his death.

“It was reported by Corporal Robert Mwirigi of Tassia Police post that on Tuesday while on patrol at about 10.50 pm, they were told that a colleague Charles Nyambeneria Oigoro had been injured,” said Ole Tito in a statement.

All was well in the party drawn by the owner of the restaurant in Embakasi until stones were allegedly pelted into their midst by an assailant only identified as James Mwaniki, whose motive could not be confirmed.

The officer who was attached to Tassia Police post suspended the partying to quell the disturbance and apprehend the attacker.

Unfortunately, as he stepped out of the restaurant, a stone thrown by the suspect got him on the head resulting in a serious injury.

The officer was rushed to the nearby Bristol Park Hospital where an emergency treatment was administered before he was later referred to Komarock Modern Healthcare in Utawala, Nairobi where he was to undergo a head scan.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival and his body has since been moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital Mortuary.

Ole Tito said the suspect was arrested by members of the public, adding that police were conducting investigations into the matter.
