Football Kenya AGM to discuss players’ issue

A proposal on the adoption of appearance of club academy players in senior teams and vice versa will highlight Football Kenya Federation’s sixth Annual General Meeting in Kisumu today.

If passed by the 78 delegates, the proposal drafted by Kariobangi Sharks, will see top tier clubs field their registered youth team players in the league during the season.

The resolution will also allow injured players from the first team to train with reserve teams.

“Apart from the proposal from Kariobangi Sharks seeking to permit fielding of club academy players in senior team and vice versa, there is nothing major to be discussed,” FKF Secretary General Robert Muthomi told Standard Sports yesterday.

“I think this proposal is long overdue. It is good for the growth of the game in the country because if well implemented it will expose many players at a younger age.

“Though it looks difficult to be implemented now, it is good for the future.”

But key on the agenda will be presentation of the consolidated and revised balance sheet and the profit and loss statement,  approval of the 2019 budget, formalisation of the adoption league calendar change and club licensing regulations.

Adoption of regulations on club ownership, registration and legal form as well as recommendations from the federation’s technical department will be discussed.

“We would like to know the structural ownership of all clubs more so in the lower leagues, “ said Muthomi.
