Knec asks 1.6 million school leavers to pick certificates, check errors

The Government has asked 1.6 million school leavers who sat national examinations last year to pick certificates.

Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) acting CEO Mercy Karogo yesterday said the certificates had been delivered across all schools and asked parents, teachers and candidates to pick them up. She said the council had extended a 60-day window for school leavers to check for errors in the documents and communicate back for correction.

“The sub-county Directors of Education are requested to inform all head teachers and principals of secondary schools who presented candidates for the 2017 examinations to collect certificates from the offices between October 1 and October 5,” said Ms Karogo.

Those who fail to verify their details and lodge complaints after the deadlines will be charged; Sh3,000 for primary school leavers and Sh5,000 for high school leavers.

Some 993,718 candidates sat KCPE last year, with another 611,952 sitting KCSE examinations.
