Zetech University teams had a successful weekend outing registering victories in their basketball and football matches.

In the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) League, Zetech Titans humbled Lions 76-55 in an exciting clash at the United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) grounds.

William Omboko starred for Zetech University with 22 points while Harrison Kaudia led Lions with  23 points.

Titans coasted to a 25-17 lead in the first quarter. Not ready to go down without a good fight, Lions upped their game to secure the second quarter 14-11 as Zetech went into the break with a 36-31 lead.

On resumption, the Titans took charge of the game tormenting Lions’ defence for an emphatic 20-7 score in the third quarter. Zetech completed the job after taking the final quarter 20-17.

Intense training

Titans Coach Job Munene praised the for the good display.

“I’m glad to see our efforts, commitment and intense training paying off. We are working hard to maintain our form and secure more victories in upcoming games,” Munene said.

In the women’s title chase, Zetech Sparks secured a narrow 41-39 win over Strathmore University in the KBF Women’s Premier League.

It was the best possible start in the second leg of the league for the Thika-Road side having dug their way up following a difficult opening quarter.

Trailing Strathmore 16-18 in the first half, Sparks rallied to secure the slim victory thanks to Lucy Mbithe’s superb show in the third and fourth quarters.

Mbithe was Sparks’ top scorer with 11 points. Sparks coach Maurice Obilo was impressed with his charges’ fighting spirit noting that they will work on improving their performance.

Elsewhere, Zetech Titans FC secured a 2-1 win over Butterfly FC in a Division Two match at Ruiru. The Titans came from a goal down to secure maximum points. Austin Ochieng and Yusuf Abdallah scored in the second half. Ochieng restored parity in the 60th minute with Abdallah netting the winner in the 75th minute.
