Sony Sugar striker Enock Agwanda is the SJAK/SportPesa player of the month Award for July.

The burly forward has been in scintillating form since returning to the club that launched his professional career guiding them to mid-table with match winning performances.

His two match-winning goals and two assists won him the accolade presented by sports journalists’ association and SportPesa and LG Electronics.

For his effort Agwanda took home yesterday a 49 inch LG television set and Sh100,000 having been voted best ahead of Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo and young Sony Sugar forward Tobias Omondi

Agwanda, fondly called ‘Jowi’ - buffalo due to his burly frame, becomes the first Sony Sugar player to win the award since its inception four years ago.

“I have to thank my wife and parents for making me return to Sony Sugar because my career has been rejuvenated. It was difficult in Bandari with the injuries but once I returned, everything is falling in place,” Agwanda said on receiving the award.

He set a modest target of five goals in the half season, but has already surpassed with two goals.

“The coach, who brought me back here really trusts me and that is a real confidence boost to any player. I didn’t really play as good as I wanted in July but it’s still an improvement from June. I’ve made even more improvements this month and I believe I will be in contention for August honours as well,” said Agwanda, who has had stints with Gor Mahia and Sofapaka.

Agwanda rejoined Sony Sugar during the June transfer window with the club languishing in relegation zone. [Standard Sports]
