KWS officers slit crocodile’s belly to look for missing girl [PHOTOS]

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers in Embu this week killed a crocodile as they intensified their search for a missing schoolgirl.

Mawia Mwendwa, a Standard Two pupil at Karura Primary School, was attacked by a crocodile as she fetched water on Tuesday evening.

KWS officers swung into action and went to Kiambere dam to look for the killer croc after the body search yielded no fruits.

The officers gunned down one of the giant reptiles in the dam on suspicion that it had mauled the girl.

However, upon opening up its belly, they did not find the deceased.

The girl’s father had requested the officers to look for his daughter’s body for funeral arrangements to be made but was left dejected as the bold move failed.

Tony Mutinda, a resident, had earlier revealed that he saw the vicious reptiles tearing apart the girl’s body and even shining torches could not deter them.

“There was nothing we could have done. These animals are very vicious and have been attacking our livestock.

“They were tearing the body as we watched at night. We tried shining light using torches but they were unmoved,” he said.
